Rooted in the Heartland,
Raised with Purpose

The Alpaca Shop began with a simple conviction: that the finest textiles come from animals raised with dignity and fiber processed with unwavering attention. Our herd, based just outside Princeton, Illinois, has been our family for over two decades.

Every fleece that enters our studio carries the imprint of sun-warmed pastures, careful husbandry, and a deep respect for the animal. We don't source from afar — we know each alpaca by name, and we shepherd the fiber from shearing to finished product within our own hands.

That closeness to the source is what sets our textiles apart. The luster, the warmth, the impossibly soft hand — these aren't qualities you can manufacture. They're earned, season by season, through a relationship with the land and the animals that makes every piece truly singular.

Ethically Raised

Our alpacas roam freely on open pasture, treated with care and respect throughout their lives.

Generations of Knowledge

From Pasture to Finished Thread

The journey of every fiber we sell begins with the animals we raise. We believe that true quality cannot be separated from the story of its making — and we tell that story openly, at every step.

01

Shearing

Once a year, our herd is gently shorn by experienced handlers. Each fleece is sorted by fineness and color, ensuring only the finest fiber moves forward.

02

Scouring & Carding

Fiber is washed in cold water to remove natural lanolin, then carded into roving or batts — preserving the staple length that gives alpaca its strength.

03

Spinning & Dyeing

Using both traditional wheel and industrial spinners, we transform roving into yarn. Natural and hand-mixed dyes create our signature palette.

04

Finishing

Every skein, wrap, and textile is hand-finished, pressed, and inspected before it reaches your hands — ready to be cherished for years to come.

"The softness is unlike anything I've ever felt. Every time I wrap myself in The Princeton Wrap, I'm reminded of the care that goes into every single fiber. This is what luxury should feel like — warm, honest, and deeply personal."
